With the launch of eight new digital genetics labs, Science Interactive is the only online lab provider offering curriculum developed specifically for this discipline, designed to provide pre-health science, biology, and nursing majors with the skills needed to pursue health science careers.
ENGLEWOOD, CO —July 18, 2024—Science Interactive, a leader in supporting effective science education, recently launched a new genetics curriculum for online, hybrid or in-person lab courses. With this launch, Science Interactive now offers more than 460 hands-on and digital labs across 14 different disciplines—all of which are certified by Quality Matters, the leading global organization for quality assurance in online teaching and learning.
Unlike other offerings, Science Interactive’s digital lessons for Genetics are purpose-built for the discipline, which has successfully achieved Quality Matters certification. Designed to align with learning objectives for 200-level courses and focused on today’s innovative technology in the field of genetics, these labs equip students pursuing degrees in the health sciences with the skills and knowledge needed to achieve course competencies and pursue advanced coursework. Whether a course is fully online, on campus, or hybrid, instructors can use these labs to elevate the student learning experience and reinforce critical concepts by:
- Better preparing students with digital pre-labs before in-person labs
- Supplementing digital labs with other hands-on lessons in biomolecular techniques, mitosis & meiosis, Mendelian genetics, blood analysis, DNA & more
- Providing opportunities for students to build practical skills applicable to careers in health sciences, regardless of where they’re learning from
- Balancing the time spent on campus for hybrid students with convenient, accessible & efficient ways to engage in quality learning experiences
Science Interactive has worked with thousands of institutions over the last 30 years to reach more students with quality online science courses. Now as the only provider with digital curriculum developed specifically for genetics that can be used for online or in-person labs, Science Interactive makes it easier for programs to expand access to a discipline growing in popularity. Instructors can enrich the student learning experience, and students will gain critical thinking and problem-solving skills—no matter where they’re learning from.
“We’re excited to offer our new Quality Matters-certified genetics curriculum, developed specifically to better prepare students who are pursuing pre-health, biology, and nursing degrees. Designed by our team of Ph.D. scientists, these labs will help students build practical skills, learn fundamental concepts, and gain exposure to cutting edge technologies like CRISPR. Our latest genetics content further expands on our decades of experience supporting students and instructors in the health sciences, and we look forward to working with programs to continue increasing access to these fields of study,” said Dr. Caitlin Runne-Janczy, Chief Academic Officer for Science Interactive.
All Science Interactive curricula, including genetics lessons, are developed by in-house Ph.D. scientists who design every lab with measurable learning outcomes. Science Interactive’s team of instructional designers test those labs for quality, accuracy, repeatability, safety and ADA compliance. Instructors currently teaching those courses then peer-review the labs. Lessons are reviewed regularly and designed with built-in flexibility so instructors can tailor them to their needs and course objectives.
“Our mission is to empower scientific literacy for learners everywhere by helping institutions expand access to their science programs, including higher level genetics courses. We want instructors to have the right resources to deliver an engaging and meaningful lab experience that prepares students to pursue careers in the health sciences and supports better outcomes, without having to sacrifice quality or rigor,” said Science Interactive’s Chief Executive Officer, Sasha Peterson.
